| THE CORNWALL SPRING FLOWER SHOW . 2008 THE SPRING FLOWER SHOW GOES GLOBAL! Next year's Garden Society Spring Flower Show at Boconnoc on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th April will be more exciting and innovative than ever. The International Camellia Congress will be taking place in Falmouth prior to the Show and 200 delegates from 20 countries will be visiting the Show on the Saturday. In celebration of this global meeting of minds, knowledge, expertise, skills and love of this most beautiful of shrubs, the Great Cornish Gardens, headed by Trewithen will be setting up a truly mammoth and astounding exhibition of Camellias in the long marquee. Just to put competitors on their metal; the Society has been fortunate that two members of the Congress have agreed to judge the competitive Camellia classes; we hope that this years entries will be as spectacular as in previous years and it is worth remembering that it is not always the 'Goliaths' of the garden world that walk off with the prizes; quite a lot of 'Davids' have triumphed especially in recent years, so why not have a go! We need to demonstrate to our foreign visitors the extent and quality of our Cornish Camellias from gardens big and small. Leaving the Camellias to one side there will be hundreds of individual blooms competing against each other in over two hundred separate classes, a botanical art exhibition, a photographic competition and the ever popular Gardener's Question Time in the beautiful 15th Century Church. The Floral Art classes will be taking place again in their own special large marquee, and the 'Grown in Cornwall' Marquee will be bigger and better than ever. 'Art in the Garden's sculpture and garden ornaments, return to the Dorothy Garden where the scarecrow competition for schools will also take place, supplemented this year by a new competitive class 'Painted Flower Pots' for children aged 7 and under and 8 , 11, (the pots must be 12.5 cms,) A diverse collection of horticultural trade stands will be displaying their wares in the sheltered courtyard, and on the lawn in front of Boconnoc House, with a variety of food outlets including additional tables and seating on the drive leading to the courtyard in the shelter of the old wall. The historic Boconnoc House, will again be open to the public, as will the beautiful gardens. With 6,000 visitors enjoying the show last year the organisers are confident that next years show will exceed all expectations.
